On April 24th Apple will releases yet another product that has already created a stir. Like all Apple products fan boys and fan girls everywhere with iPhones will pay to have the latest Apple product because…. its made by Apple. That being said I do have to admit that I would like to see the Apple Watch to experiment with but have no desire to own one for three main reasons.
1. I Have An HTC One And Won’t Switch
The most obvious reason that I won’t be buying the Apple Watch is because I own an HTC One and don’t have a compatible device. This hasn’t stopped others however from switching from their Android devices to an iPhone. This, in my opinion, is not a wise choice based on the capabilities of the Moto 360 verses the Apple Watch. Both watches have similar capabilities and battery life.
2. The Price Tag Is Ridiculous
The Moto 360 has a price tag of $249 for the basic model with a leather band and $299 for a metal link band. The base price for the Apple Watch Sport is $349 with the price tag going up to $1,099 for a metal banded watch. (unless your filthy rich and have $17,000 to blow)
This price difference as “justified” by the professionals that Apple apparently hired in order to make their watch. This seems to me that its more about marketing than a quality product. I understand that quality comes with a price but in this case I think it has much more to do with the Apple logo than its capabilities.
3. The Moto 360 Does What It Needs To Do
The big sale point of any smart watch is that it enables the user not to depend so much on your smart phone. It makes it possible to do the things you want to do without continually having your phone out of your pocket. The Apple Watch however is trying to put all your apps on your watch. The Moto 360 however acts more as a notification system than a replacement to ones smart phone. It enables you to respond to the important notifications in life and ignore the ones that can be viewed later.
Truthfully I don’t expect to change anyone’s views on the subject that already has an iPhone. The simple truth is that if you do have an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus you have no alternatives to choose from. If you want a smart watch you have to buy the Apple Watch, Apple has made it impossible for you to have any alternative. However if you are ready for a change might I suggest that the Moto 360 is one of the best Smart Watches on the market.
